I was just wondering what everyone does with their straw after harvest? Do you use the straw chopper on the combine? Do you feed it to cows? Is selling straw worth the effort? Do you use a baler or a forage wagon? Do you load the bales with an auto loader or use a frontloader?

I am interested to hear your opinions.

Its all what they feel like doing. I bale it after harvest, either with the 864 or the Extreme Big Bales. They I use the Heath Superchaser to collect the square bales, and the NC Bale Trailer to collect the round bales when there's alot. When theres not many, I just collect them manually. If I dont feel like baling but I need straw quickly, I use the forage wagon. Then I either feed the round bales to the cows in the TMR machine, or chop it up for straw. I never sale bales, not worth the time and effort to just sell them.

I only bale about 100 bales of barley - they are for the cows, and is plenty .. Next harvest is never far away .. I bale with whatever I got at the moment - right now it's the claas quadrant 1200, but there is a Krone bigbaler on my wish list ..

The rest is chopped - In my map they pay almost nothing for straw ..

Well since we don't really need allot of  straw due to us only having a few sheep and they graze all year round  we chop some fields and bale the others. With the bales we either sell them to a local straw dealer or we have just found a cow farmer nearby who is willing to swap straw for cow muck. We them spread this on the land.

Thanks

The straw is getting baled, loaded on a trailer and stored in a shed on the farm. Most of the bales are used for the cows manly for bedding, sometimes it goes in the feeder when I'm low on hay and silage. Sometimes I sell it but only if I need the money or when I've got to much straw.

haha! nice photoshop but on a more helpful note, I also bale a few not to many as this makes the game lag, so I would after that put it into storage silo for mixing, as this is also needed for pigs cow's ect, so only do about 80-100 bales and then decide whether you need to add a storage heap, ie MapSiloBand, this makes a good storage area for straw grass silage and mixed_Forage.

The last two harvests i sold them because i could be bothered to stack them and I had no animals. But the next harvest I will stack them in the far away shed and use them for the cows.

I bale about 100-120 bales per harvest (if I have enough land planted) I usually never chop it even If I don't have animals I sell them for the extra cash. but if I have animals I will stack them and use them in the mixed rations and for bedding I even feed the sheep mixed rations even though I don't have to  Wink

I usually bale it with the Claas Rollant baler and draw the bales back to the farm. I then usually use it then for bedding or when the silage gets critically low, I put it in the diet feeder
