Keeping terrain height when converting my mod map to 4x

I am trying to keep all of my terrain height where I have placed new tracks and roads when converting my map to 4x does anyone know how to do this?  I have watched Dajnets video on Youtube however there is no explanation as to how he kept all the terrain height detail from the Goldcrest valley map.  Cheers.  Apoligies to all I should have listened more clearly in the Dajnet video.  I just opened my map01dem png in Gimp instead of Paint.net, which I was using and it centered it perfectly on top of the  Pleasant valley 17 map01dem png and all the terrain worked perfectly.  I just have alot of terrain repainting to do.
